I have a Mazda 3 five door that gets 29 mpg around town and for work and gets 27 mpg on the road at 70 mph with two boats on the roof. That's my San O 14 and my WR 18 on it. I use Thule racks. The crossbars are about 38" apart. With front and rear tiedowns the boat is rock solid.
