Bits torn off those thin plastic disposable painer's drop-sheets are good too. Cheap and can be used for all manner of anti-epoxy-mess stuff.

I avoided wax paper because was always concerned that at least a residue of the wax would remain on the epoxy or wood, leading to subsequent epoxy or paint layers de-laminating etc. I'm such a worry-wart!
