I just finished the strips on my shearwater. Lots of fun really. I think you can probably get by with less staples if you use the cove and bead. Tony...nice looking Guillimot...Nancy, I recommend reading The Strip Built Sea kayak by Nick Shade if you can manage it...its really very well written, comprehensive and helpful... If you did build on top of the old deck as was suggested earlier, what would you staple or clamp the srips to while the glue sets?
