Andrew,

Hopefully attached you will see a picture of how I installed mine. Duct tape works well, apparently, and I like the cinch straps. Either way, make sure you don't tighten too much. If you tighten too much the overlap from the deck will lever part of the deck off the sheer and you'll fill that space with (heavier) epoxy or not get quite as complete a connection. I don't think it will make any significant structural difference, but if you can take care to do it right, it's better.
