do you mean where the ribs should be located on the underside of the hatch so it's not too loose or have to be cut down?

I made about two dozen Chesapeake hatches once and the rough method I used was to ensure the ends of the ribs were about an inch back from the edges since the gasket tape was 3/4" inch wide. And sometimes you still have to trim the ribs.
