John- Some time ago, I asked this also. The responses seemed to be that it was a good product until something went wrong then it was difficult to repair. As a urethane-based product, I gather it is durable, and easy to apply. But sun or water damage can eventually cause it to fail "catastrophically". While varnish can be refurbished by light sanding and adding coats, the urethane products would require complete removal and reapplication once they start to degrade.

Hope that's correct. Experts, please set me straight if I'm mistaken.
