My seat is the closed cell type that comes with the kit with the seat ring of the same material. After the first couple paddles I cut off the front half of the ring at an angle. I'll try your suggestion of adding another layer of padding. I'll try your positioning suggestions, hoefully on the morrow Wx permitting (maybe even if it ain't)
