That particular typo floated around for a few years. The only reason it's a bother is that the blueprints showed the hip braces about an inch or two past the midpoint of the wide point in the coaming. A few folks built their kayaks with the hip plates another inch or two past that (on their "thighs")resulting in the side support resting on the thigh bone and not at the hips. Which isn't a big deal if you don't lean a kayak, roll, go into waves, brace, etc. But if you do the solution is cutting it out and reinstalling it at your "hips".
