I've painted the bottom of two of my S&Gs with epoxy/graphite mix. It took 3 coats to get a good, solid finish, and I had to re-tape between each coat. Tape had to be removed after epoxy had partially hardened, since the tape could not be removed with completely hardened epoxy.

Good idea with adding silica powder. My boats still take a bottom beating even with the epoxy/graphite coating.
