I've never used Bristol Finish so can't offer anything definite on it. I understand it's a polyurethane based finish, which should be more durable, however the downside of polyurethanes is that when they do fail they do so catastrophically, which means you'd need to wood the boat to refinish. They aren't easy to repair

Of course if you let varnish go too long you have to do the same. It's pretty simple to redo a varnish coating IF (BIG IF) you do the work before the coating fails. Just sand and lay on another coat.
