I've seen this subject hashed/rehashed, here and on other forums. Ultimately, it's a preference issue, as all work relatively well. I'm happy with my internal bungies, ala blueheron.com; I can't believe you would lose significant carrying capacity (just how full you plan on filling your yak?) Another option is a clamping mechanism, such as Eric Schade uses. That may be the most water-tight option.
