Re: kevlar LT17

looked at my last post....should check my work before hitting submit...

what i meant to say in my first sentence is that while kevlar may give superior puncture and tear resistance compared to glass, that is NOT typically what one is focusing on when you are looking to prevent wear in the rock gardens.

you are typically focusing on avoiding abrasion and scratches and wearing through the waterproof outer layer of glass.

sacrificial strips along the chines and keel are typical approaches becuase that is wear the damage is typically going to be concentrated. in addition, bottom panels will often get a double layup of glass so you can take more scratches before having to make a repair (which would occur when the scratch penetrates to the wood).

simply changing the layup material to kevlar, in my experience, does not give improved wear resistance.
