First a disclaimer: I'm not an expert, but I do know you want to be very careful paddling in cold water, even with a dry suit; I don't recall the specific numbers, but if you dump in water, say 50 degrees F, any distance from shore, you're going to be in trouble. Do you have a paddle buddy? Hopefully, someone with experience? How about a paddle club, or other such resource? There are folks who post here, with lots more expertise on this subject; LeeG, you anywhere in the neighborhood? You also might check out some of the other padddle sites, such as kayakforum, and pose these questions. Good luck. It's an awful lot of fun, you're going to love it! BTW, what'd ya build?
