Last coat with a cloth?

This seems like as good place as any to ask about putting the "last" thin coat of epoxy on after sanding. I've read about people using a cloth for the application. Since this is my first build I spend a lot of time on the steep slope of the learning curve so any advice, how-to, etc would be a big help.
