Autumn on it's way

Posted by Karl on Oct 3, 2005

I took aride up to my family's summer house this morning to drain the water systems for the year. With school back in session and vacations all by the wayside for the year, I needed to prep the house. I'll probably head up for a day or two before the weather gets really cold, but summer is officially over for me.

Bittersweet... I didn't bring my kayak, so I did take a short canoe paddle (we leave them under the house). I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful, peaceful day. There are only about 3 or 4 year round residents on the lake, so the only sounds came from the birds, squirrels and the occasional acorn hittng the lake with a plop.

The house has been in my family for 4 generations (actually five if you include my kids). The lake is spring fed, stays crystal clear all summer long, and has a maximum depth of about 90 feet. Couldn't tell you the acreage, but it's about 2 miles long by a half mile wide. Not the biggest lake but great for a few hours paddling.

The bright blue pictures were taken today. Not a breath of wind in the sky. The others were taken at the beginning of the season.
