The 6' Rule

Posted by Kurt Maurer on Oct 1, 2005

Ah, another good oppurtunity to mention the 6-foot rule of boat building:

When inspecting your results, stand back at least an honest 6 feet away to do so; I prefer to use the ten-foot rule myself. If you endeavor to satisfy your eye from two feet away, you'll drive yourself nuts.

Remember, you're building a rugged piece of outdoor equipment that's destined to get used, scratched, and banged up a bit. Building coffee tables is suitable for the two-foot rule, perhaps, but not kayaks.

Ka-ching! My $0.02.

Cheers, Kurt
