cockpit placement

Anyone know why CLC cockpits sit so far back? I am still sorting through what all I want to do when I strip the deck on my Pax 20, and moving the cockpit forward 8-12 inches keeps looking better to me. I recently picked up a Westside EFT and cockpit to cockpit the EFT's is about a foot further forward. It surfs better, turns better, and doesn't get blown around in a breeze as badly. Any thoughts will be appreciated.
