I just ordered the kit this morning, so I figure I'll have a few months to cogitiate over the options.

Sounds like the bracket option makes more sense, both from the viewpoint of strength and keeping more of the actuating surface in the water.

The SmartRudder looks like it has a nice bracket mount, although not quite as strong looking as the mount Pygmy has pictured.

Randy, did I read things right to say you are building custom brackets? I am up in Denali, so probably won't get to Anchortown for a while.
