One Grand Adventure
Posted by Don Borntrager on Sep 27, 2005
Just thought I would drop in to help inspire anyone who might be stalled on their project. My two sons and I completed a 500-mile, two week trip this summer in our homemade Grand Laker. We put in near our home in Oologah, Oklahoma and paddled the entire trip down the Caney, Verdigris, Arkansas, and White Rivers to join the Mississippi just above Rosedale Mississippi. We went through 17 locks, several large lakes and encountered wind, waves and mosquitos. We even capsized once in some class 4-5 rapids, in Oklahoma no less! It was a trip we will always remember, and paddling a 20 ft. canoe, that we made, for that distance is something two teenage boys can be extremely proud of. I would do it again in a heartbeat!
