Right, those little tabs are where the CNC machine picks up and leaves off on each part. We have to leave them on or the parts will occasionally slip on the vacuum table. Knock them off with a sanding block.

The tabs have a secondary purpose: on some parts they serve as a code to tell the scarfing machine operator which end to feed into the machine.

You can just make out the tabs on these coamings in the photo:
