Greenland Style Paddle

What are the advantages to a Greenland Stlye Paddle over the modern style style(i.e. simple double ended canoe stlye blades)? I am in the process of building a MC 13 and already have an Old Town aluminum / Plastic one on hand, but the Plastic and Aluminum really doesn't go with the looks of the Wooden Boat. So this winter I'll probably build another and was curious about the advanatge to the skinnier Greenland Style.
