Re: flyfishing from a che

You bet I fish outa my sea yaks. I ain't paddlin' no barge around when there's nervous water out there, you kiddin'??

That ol' Cormorant has next to NO initial stability, and that's ain't stretchin' nothin'. In fact, the last time I got into it, about a week ago, I very nearly flipped it just getting in... and I NEVER flip kayaks! Got used to my Outer Island and Guillemot, I guess. Anyway, it's a very spirited boat, that's why I love it so (yeah, I'm gonna build a new & improved one soon), and it makes a splendid fishing craft.

So I have two things to say here: first, any boat's stability is more a function of the paddler than anything else. Second, the Chessy series of kayaks is about as stable as it's gonna get.

I have yet to try fly fishing out of a kayak, but don't see any problem with the idea. I'm 99.9% certain it's gonna be as easy as casting a fly is ever gonna be.

Cheers, Kurt
