check out the shape of elliptical vcp hatches,,my preference is an elliptical hatch,,if you want to put a cylindrical object through a deck at an angle it'll roughly define an ellipse. Squared off hatches follow the sheer but the shape doesn't have much correspondence to what is being put through them.,,hmm form following function, what an idea. You can experiment with a string and two nails on the work bench to configure a shape that'll fit in the space available.
