Re: Paint prep

I am of the opinion that the CLC advice to use denatured alcohol is the right one. Other solvents can contaminate the surface or cause bubbles in your varnish. However I believe that the "ready to paint in minutes" is too fast. I will wait overnight after wet sanding, rinsing and drying the boat. Then I wipe with the alcohol and wait for at least an hour. Any sooner and your varnish will have more bubbles. This is not a time to rush. And that hour wait gives time for any dust in the room to settle.
