I remove the wires. Copper is convenient for various reasons such as leaving them in and sanding the exterior but soft steel wire works just as well for the task of bringing 4mm plywood together and is cheaper. You end up having to break and replace a few wires anyway so the ease of untying/tying is kind of minimal.
