attaching rubrails

I've almost finished my boat with plenty of help from this forum. I've found most of the info i need by lurking. I haven't heard much about affixing rubrails. My upcoming last step will be rubrails. My deck is varnished and hull painted already and look good. I would like to epoxy (mostly to fill any small gaps) and nail (brass brads) the rubrail on. Is this a "correct" way? I don't want to make a mess of the finished parts and 16' of rubrail is difficult to control. Alternate idea is to nail the whole thing and then fill any gaps and clean up any epoxy smears with vinegar after.
