Yah, as I noted I used the dotted lines as a guide, so I think I got that right. I think the manual could be a bit more explicit about the location, though.

The darker color was definitely darker wood, I see now from my pictures, not darker hardener. But since we're varnishing, I expect the dofferences will even out a bit.
