It's really worth rounding over the sheerclamp well as ANY sanding/scraping can break through the hard epoxy on soft cypress. Ditto utility knife cutting glass against sheerclamp. This may not seem important except that sometime in the following years if the kayak is sitting on its side with puddled water (in a kayak?, being transported?) the water WILL find a way through the sheerclamp and show up later on the sheer exterior as 'black ick'. I've seen it happen on a couple kayaks at the deck beam and back band strap hole where the #8 1/2" screw anchors the backband (another reason to anchor back band to hip plates)
