I started using BS-6566 Okoume instead of the BS-1088 because it is a whole lot cheaper. Around $10 a sheet less. I wouldn't recommend it to a first time builder because the veneer is thinner so there is a higher likelihood of burning through it when fairing. But after someone gets a boat or two under his belt that doesn't seem to be a problem. I'm just as happy with the final results whether the kayaks were built with 6565 or 1088. You certainly can't tell by looking at the finished product but there was $$ saved.
