paint repairs

Hi folks,

I finished my boat two years ago and it now has some nicks in the hull paint as well as a few scratches in the deck varnish. I've sanded smooth the blems. Now, how do I refinish just the blemishes without the new paint or varnish appearing painfully obvious? Can I mask off the areas and sand/buff the edges? Will I have to rent/buy spray gun eqmt? Will I have to do the whole deck/hull?
