Counter balance the load with something in the front hatch. Sand bags would do well, make sure to use just enough so that your over all weight doesn't exceed the capacity of yer boat. Shed all teh weight you can via personal equipment, army boots, hiking pants, touque (yeah, you gotta let that go for this trip),girdle, bra, knife, uzi...anything you can avoid carrying except your pfd and paddle. As long as you counter balance whatever ends up on the back with something on the front, you should be earning easy money.
