The SailRig rudder is held down by the adjustable knob, which of course has to be set in its "down" position by the skipper while wading alongside the boat. This has worked fine for us, daysailing, and with the knob tightened the rudder never pops up.

However, it sure would be nice to have a remote deployment line. This will take some experimentation but it's not as hard as it sounds. You just need some fairleads mounted on the rudder housing.
