The "Kayak Roll" as previously stated is a good video for breaking down the steps, but it is near impossible yto diagnose any faults in your roll without the help of an instructor or knowledgable friend.

I learn new rolls in a polo kayak then transfer them to my SOF and then to my CH16. When i was learning I found the CH16 a little disheartening as I struggled to roll it for a long time. I did my first roll just over a year ago and I now have about 13 reliable rolls (of the 30 Greenland rolls) and 4 more that I can do at least 50% of the time. I think the first one is the hardest but after that, the confidence it gives you allows you to learn other rolls quite quickly.

I think an instructor is invaluable for the first roll, after that you can pretty much go with the self teaching method.

Keep trying as once you have it, a new world of kayaking opens up. Things like big surf doesn't seem anywhere near as daunting as it used to be.

Cheers Tony
