Not if you do it right. There is a thread right now over at Wooden Boat about no sanding between coats of varnish. To hot coat right you have to coat again right at the time you would normally think of seeing if the paint was hard enough to sand. You are right that the paint probably is soft for a while but I wait to use Brightsides until it has cured a week or so anyway.

Note also that I am talking theoretical here. I have done hot coating on small parts like rudder or daggerboard refinish when I am in a hurry to go sailing again. I would not do it on a whole yak for instance. I would do it on interior surfaces on a big (not open) boat for example.

Any more input guys?
