I agree fully with Joeys procedure but do differ on the no sand issue. If you think about it, you are bonding new paint over just barely set paint. The chemical bond thing is still going on. What better surface to bond to for paint than itself. Clean and still curing.

It is very much a timing issue. Too soon and you can wrinkle the last coat and too late is a risk.

I have done it as have a couple of long time wood boat guys I know. They did it first. If you feel that even 400 wet sanding is too much for you then you can try what I do most jobs. Wet sand 400 every other coat and 3M green pad the others. You will build thckness faster. The 3M pad will take the gloss off and knock down the dust bunnies. Be aware however that if you do hot coat as I call it then you accept all responsibility and won't come looking for me!
