Guide Coat

I have noticed that questions/answers dealing with primer/sanding never mentions the use of a guide coat before sanding. This is a common procedure in my neck of the woods. Just before sanding you apply a thin coat of about 10% stain with acetone or some other thinner.(could even be water based) Wipe with a rag or spray. A small boat like a kayak should only take about 3 minuites to apply with a rag. What you end up with is just a dirty looking "wash" over the painted area. You then sand until this is gone (except small holes will still appear dirty). This method takes all the guess work out of where you have sanded or need to sand.
