I think that your old seat will be good for getting your balance in the new boat. It will probably be too low for long paddles latter on, though. You will probably have to raise the seat about an inch, or start getting leg cramps. An SOT seat is normally just a comfort pad(some of the newer self-infalting kinds are worse) and only give about a quarter inch of cushion. But start with it to get the feel of the boat. This is something Kurt can use in reverse on his K-1. If you have a hard time balancing a boat, take the seat out and sit on a towel(or something) till you get to a balance point, then start raising the seat until you are comfortable
