Re: That's Water

On my first kayak a had a crack in the first ply (lauan) on the underside of the deck that opened up with use (no glass on the inside). Water got in and wicked throught all three plys and followed the grain of the wood. With time it started to darken. I dryed it by puting an electric heating pad on it for two days which lightend the stain quite a bit. Then I sealed the crack with epoxy. There is still a light stain there but it stopped the darkening rot process.

The heat did cause the epoxy to emprint (telegraph the cloth weave texture to the surface). But you still need to sand so no worry there.
