Re: weight reduction tech

I was successfull in applying my initial coat of epoxy to the "Un-stitched" panels very quickly to place a minimum seal on the wood without adding weight. Avoid getting any on the end grain where you want good pull-through on your fillet base coat. I sanded my panels first, followed by a good scraping to minimize the surface area of the wood. I QUICKLY squeegeed the epoxy over the panels to minimize the volume of excess epoxy soaking into the wood. After the boat was stitched and before I glassed the hull, I sanded the panels well to get a good "tooth" to the surface. I got a good seal with the first wet-out coat. I scraped off excessive epoxy off the top of the glass after the next two fill coats. I cannot detect the glass now. Ditto on end pours.
