Like Grandma

Like Grandma I decide to try stripping. I the deck on my sailing canoe, Grandma stripped tobacco leaves for cigar wrappers, sorry guys. Some of my strips slipped, leaving an uneven surface. How far down can this be safely planed, scraped or sanded? Will the glass cloth stretch or cover an uneveness of 1/32 in., 1/16 in. without looking really bad?
