Re: weight reduction tech

a couple other weight saving techniques...
- well round the chines and the deck/hull shear.
- well round the inside edge of the coaming...this will also make it a bit more comfortable.
- eliminate the wooden hip braces..hip support can be done with foam.
- build the coaming without attaching it to the boat (you do this with plastic between the coaming build and the hull). then you can really clean up and even out the outside edges of the spacers...which reduces the amount of material in the coaming
- select your boards by hand and with a scale...like any lumber product, there can be signficant variation in weight between two identically dimensioned boards.
all of the plus kyles points are good for a couple pounds of savings over the ideal weight.
the biggest bang, however, is going with a lighter ply....3mm instead of 4. so i am watching J.Schotts post with extreme interest.
