Re: Paddle Float Recovery

Brett, I built a CH Double last year.

I installed a full bulkhead between the cockpits rather than the deck beam as per plans.

The reasoning being to obviously serarate the cockpits, therefor in case of capsize, having two smaller areas to pumpout rather than one big one.

With one big area full of water ,the sloshing around may capsize the righted craft before it can be pumped out.(We've talked about this before on this forum)

My eventual plan is to install a 500GPH elect bilge pump in the rear cockpit.

A 6" piece of 1" or 1 1/2" PVC tube glassed in the bottom of the bulkhead between cockpits .

A rubber stopper held in the rear of the tube with a bungie going through to the front.

A cord attached to the back of the stopper running across the bottom of the rear cockpit leads to a jam cleat positioned in front of the rear seat.

This allows the rear paddler to control any water passing from the front to rear cockpit for pumping out.

This may also allow to keep the boat trimmed untill pumped dry, hopefully avoiding further capsize due to large amounts of water moving all over the place.

Just my AUS $ 0.02 worth

Paul
