We have a 16.5 that we did swamp once, just to see how it would behave in a capsize (we have a sail rig which, of course, makes a capsize more likely). The boat was stable enough to get in and bail out. Never thought to try paddle float rescue and, of course, the thing just can't be rolled. We just carry two big bailers and wear our PFDs. If a sudden storm blew up and we swamped we'd either stay with the boat and radio, or, if close to shore, swim in and get some help for a tow, much like any other sailboat.
