Dory article

If any of you can find Tuesday's (6/1) New York Times Science Page on the web, they have a wonderful article on Nova Scotia dory building and fishing. Dateline: Lunenburg, NS, about five miles from our house in Nova Scotia. Tough, hazardous life, dory fishing huge cod and halibut with handlines, and I hadn't realized it persisted to WW II. I think all you S&G builders will particularly like the last paragraph.

Our house was built in the 40s by a fishing captain who started dory fishing in his mid-teens (according to his sister, who still lives next door). Many features of the house are very carefully constructed, and reflect the cautious personality of a man who's living was earned one mistake shy of drowning.

Still lots of dories up that way. Most of them the same Goldens Spicy Brown Mustard-color. Nice boats to look at and, I'm told, easy to build.
