glued to wax

I carved a paddle out of a cedar 2x4, it turned out pretty good but i thought I would seal it with epoxy. The epoxy stuck to the wax paper which was protecting it from the saw horse it was sitting on while it was curing. I have been trying to sand the wax paper off the paddle but wonder if that is the best solution. I dont think the varnish will stick til I get it off. What do I need to do?
