The front hatch size in the CLC flush hatch kit will admit even large dry bags unless they have tentpoles in them or something. The opening in a flush hatch kit is the same as the opening in the standard CLC forward hatch, and that has been around for 11 or 12 years now.

Still, the opening size is somewhat arbitrary and the fact that it's smaller is partially aesthetic and partially because, all things being equal, a smaller hatch on the always-wet foredeck is that much less likely to leak.
