skeg instalation

I ran out of epoxy at just about the time I should be glassing the outside of my Oxford shell, so was the local shop where I bought it too. Now I'm trying to find something to do over the weekend. The instructions call for fixed skeg installation, but AFTER the glassing. I'm trying to figure out the reason why shouldn't I install skeg box PRIOR to glassing the outside, but I can't think of any. CLC?
