If the boat has a dull look after the lake water has dried on it and the vinegar solution takes it off the water probably has a high calcium content. We have a similar problem here but if I wipe the boat with a towel when I take it out or scrub with soap and water within a few hours it will come off. Vinegar is a weak acid that dissolves calcium much like Limeaway works in your shower.
