Bulkhead Hatches.
Posted by Dave Houser on May 3, 2005
I have made bulkhead hatches of this design on two kayaks. They work great. The backband has to be removable for access to the rear hatch and the front hatch is a long reach but they do keep the decks uncluttered. They are more trouble to use but I mostly day paddle. A pulley at the end pour witha loop of rope help loading and unloading.
Beckson hatches are known to jam with a little sand.
