DOWN

Posted by Dave Houser on May 2, 2005

I side load my kayak onto my SUV and find it easiest to lift it over my head upside down. I also made cradles for it and found it easier to match the deck radius. I do not notice any difference in aerodynamic lift between DOWN or UP (tried both).

The cons for DOWN is dealing with the rigging between the deck and the cradle which is no big deal. Just lift and push down on the stern when laoding and the bungines just snap past the cradle. I cannot find any deck scratches resulting from DOWN loading. If there are any they hide between all of the paddle dings.
